Google Ads Custom Columns Setup and Example Use Case

What are custom columns and why might you want to use them? You might want to set one up if you need to keep track of something that's not already built-in, such as cost per conversion or cost per click. In this example, let's pretend Google is reporting twice the conversions you're actually receiving. But you know it will take a while to resolve the problem and you decide to create a custom column so you can easily check a more accurate cost per conversion. You'll divide your cost by half of the conversions.

Here are the steps.

1. Navigate to the campaigns, ad groups or keywords view and click "columns"
2. Scroll down and click "custom columns"
3. Click the "+" button
4. Enter your formula, much like you would do so in a spreadsheet
5. Enter a name and select a data format
6. Click "save" (twice)

You'll now see your custom column in your view!
